May Madness
I was away in Perak, Malaysia for a few days last month with a bunch of strangers. The trip as a whole was a real eye opener because it has been awhile since I was in Perak and never would I have thought that Perak has so many attractions to offer for the average traveler. What made the trip extra special for me were the bonds that were made during the whole trip. We started out practically as 8 total strangers and by the end of the trip the whole lot of us (individuals ranging from mid 20s to early 30s) were playing hide and seek inside a moving bus that were traveling more than 100km/h en route back to Singapore on the highway and also not forgetting the several rounds of charades, limbo dancing and star gazing conducted inside the bus.
That is one of the marvels of what traveling can offer you, turning total strangers into bosom buddies in the face of common pursuits and endearments. It was one of those rare moments where I felt contented traveling in a rather large group and reminded me on why I undertook the passion of traveling; which is the opportunity to learn from others and to grow better within. And thus I want to say thank you to those individuals who made my recently concluded trip to Perak rather unforgettable.
April was rather an experimental month for us here at Itchytraveller.com. Firstly, we decided to change the article’s layout in the website where we would break down an article into several pages. Unfortunately that did not go down too well with most of you from the feedbacks that we received. So we are reverting back to our original format on the article’s layout.
I think I speak for everyone here at Itchytraveller.com when I say that whatever we do here, our aim is to ensure that you, our readers will have the most satisfying experience while surfing through our website and should we fail to do that then we would love to hear from you on how we can improve your experience here at Itchytraveller.com
Secondly, in April, Itchytraveller.com managed to hold two events in a span of one week. First with the help from the administrators of the Pertapis Children Home, our sponsors; Karma Resorts, donors as well as members of Itchytraveller.com, we managed to conclude our first charity project under our “Project Teach to Fish” banner by bringing children from the Pertapis Children’s Home to an educational field trip to Snow City, Science Center and the Omni Max Theatre. We also organized a special treat for members of the website in our first ever Itchytraveller.com’s Movie Night held at the Screening Room. Those events were a learning curve for everyone here as we aspire to do better the next time around.
While reflecting on the results of our experiments in April, I realized that summer’s already here and yet, there have been reports of freak snow storms and inclement weather around the world. Not exactly the picture perfect sun soaked beaches that revelers expect. And this signals to the ever increasing concern of what is in store for our planet.
With this in mind and in the wake of Earth day and my recently concluded trip to Perak, the crux of May’s issue here at Itchytraveller.com will deal with ecotourism and everything it embodies.
We will be highlighting places and activities where ‘going green’ are not just a buzzword but part of their mission/motto. From a luxurious villa retreat on the cliffs of Uluwatu in Bali, to the limestone caves of Perak, there is no place too grand or out of the way to start practicing the 3 R(s), Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
It would also be great to hear from you our readers on your thoughts on eco-tourism as well as your experiences on traveling ‘Green’. So have yourself a great month of May and for those in school, Happy Holidays!
p.s.: before i totally forget, this month we are giving away a 6 days 5 nights stay at Karma Kandara. for the record, this prize is the most expensive prize we will be giving to date. so good luck to you guys who are entering the contest.
