Singapore's Coolest Bars
Bar-tilicious
“Apple bottom jeans, boots with the furrrrrrrrr,
The whole club looking at herrrrr,
She hit the floor!
Next thing you know!
Shorty got LOW, LOW, LOW, LOW, LOW, LOW, LOW, LOW!”
Even after 1 week passed since I last went clubbing, Flo Rida’s LOW is still ringing in my ears! To make things worse, the song is everywhere! Literally! From ringtones in the MRT trains, to the 77street shop at Heeren, it is no wonder this song is a big hit. Every Wednesday, at Zouk’s Phuture dance floor, this song will be played last and when the chorus part plays(the one with the many LOWS) everyone in the dance floor, amazingly in unison will drop low! Seeing is believing!
Personally, this song is overplayed, and I hate to admit this, I find myself twitching to the song whenever I hear it- without fail!
More importantly, last week’s roller coaster ride with the night clubs have taken a toll on me. Even after 1 week, I’m still feeling the effects of the late nights hitting the dance floors at MOS and Zouk! Looks like age is catching up on me and as much as I’m tempted to continue partying hard, looks like I have to change this lifestyle of mine if I want to stop feeling all the aches on my muscles.
So therefore this week calls for an alternative night activity. Clubbing till the wee hours of the morning requires regulation and moderation- clubbing excessively is not good for the body (speaking from experience)! However, still within the scope of nocturnal activities, I’ve decided to explore more of the chill and relax nightlife where fun and excitement is still the name of the game but one that is less taxing on the body. Or at least on me! So here, itchytraveller will take you on a journey exploring some ‘chill out’ places for the nocturnal ones!
Timbre (Art House and Substation)
First up, to start the ball rolling, it will be none other than Timbre! Having opened 2 outlets (The Art House and The Substation) this pub has reached the hearts of many people. From office working adults to secondary students, Timbre has managed to attract a variety of loyal fans from different backgrounds- and they just keep coming back for more! And their key to success? It can be summed in 4 words: Home of local bands! With live band music from talented local bands practically everyday of the week, it is no wonder Timbre is one of the best, if not the best pub to go to for a night of good music, drinks and company! Furthermore bands such as Good Fellas and EIC will never fail to awe you with their antics, which occasionally can really be out of this world! For a night of really good covers, and people watching, you definitely wouldn’t want to miss Timbre out!
Wala wala (Holland Village)
Next up, we have a pub that that will definitely give Timbre a run for their money and that is wala wala cafe bar. Situated in Holland village, this double story bar/pub is a great place to enjoy nice drinks, company and good music without having to worry too much about what you wear. Unlike Timbre where the patrons tend to dress up to blend in with the glammed crowd, here at wala wala it’s the total opposite. Just grab yourself a t-shirt and pants and you're perfectly ready for walas! with great live bands playing covers on the upper deck, accompanied by fabulous food and drinks and set amidst a laidback ambience, wala wala is a great place to unwind and distress! And its Definitely a top spot for a great night out without all the snobby fuss too!
Loof (Odeon Towers)
If you feel that wala wala's 2 storey level is not high an elevation, then loof is definitely the place to go! Situated on a rooftop, this 'bar on a roof' cleverly blends in the bustle and hustle of urban life with some mischievous rawness right here on the 3rd floor! With such designs, it is not that hard to find yourself sometimes gazing at the night sky in quiet contemplation while enjoying the soulful and jazz sounds spun by the resident Djs. And if spun music is not your preference, fear not as loof also provides live acoustic music every Thursday with covers played by Ngak and Clement. loof redefines the concept of bar and will definitely keep you elevated- literally!
Indochine – Wisma (Wisma Atria)
To some, travelling to North Bridge Road might not seem too attractive, then the next recommendation will have to be Indochine (Wisma Atria). Located right smack in Orchard Road, just below Wisma Atria, Indochine never fails to lure tired shoppers to its premises with the promise of fantastic drinks, decadent food, relaxing ambience and great live music. Not to forget a recharging opportunity for the 'shagged' legs too! Apart form it’s alfresco dining, Indochine also has an indoor air-conditioned interior where the dim-lit setting will make any lady feel like Juliet! Furthermore, the jaunty musical beats of the live bands (very Creed-ish) enhance the mood with their ability to soothe the heart through their husky and crisp voice. A perfect voice for perfect covers songs by Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi!

With pubs and bar such as those above, you will never be lost for places to go for after dusk activities! However these are just the few recommended ones and every individual's taste is different. These places are uniquely my preference and yours might be different. However I do hope mine will give you a start to an amazingly wonderful 'chill-laxing' night life experience!
