Itchytraveller.com Movie Night

On the 24th of April 2008, we hosted our very first “Itchytraveller.com Movie Night”. It was a night especially for our members and friends and a great opportunity for us to meet our members and for them to mingle and network.

The venue, the uber cool ‘Screening Room’ at Ann Siang Road for a private screening of the whimsical Wes Anderson movie, “Darjeeling Limited”.

Members started trickling in from as early as 7.30 p.m. (movie was due to begin around 8.15 p.m.) and hung out at the chill out bar just outside the theatre room. It was heartening to see a lot of new faces amongst the 20 odd people who attended the event.

After everyone settled down into their plush over-sized seats, our resident emcee Miss Sofiah opened the event with hearty greetings and a promise of a lucky draw at the end of the show. The prize, 2 pairs of tickets to Singapore’s premier ‘ferris wheel’, The Singapore Flyer.

With all that business out of the way, the lights dimmed and the first strains of “Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)” by Peter Sarstedt greeted us. The film was full of little cameos (by Bill Murray and Natalie Portman) and funny, surprising moments. And it was all set against the beauty of Rajasthan, India. The ripples of laughter coming from around the room throughout the film assured me that I was not the only one enjoying the exploits of the Whitman brothers.

However, like all great adventures, the end always comes too soon and before we knew it, the end credits to ‘Darjeeling Limited’ started rolling. Within ten minutes and after everyone has had an opportunity to stretch and use the bathroom, we conducted the lucky draw. After twice dipping into the large ornate bowl that held our members’ names, two lucky names were picked. These two lucky winners were Miss Shila and Matt who were extremely thrilled at winning! Their smiles said it all.

With the night approaching its’ close, we managed to get a group photo in to commemorate such an eventful night where we each started as strangers (like the Whitman brothers) but left as friends.

We would like to thank everyone who made this event a great success and we look forward to seeing you again for our future events.

So do look out for other events coming up exclusively for members of Itchytraveller.com. If you’re not a member yet, sign up now and give in to that Itch to Travel!
