Lost in translation, Tokyo, Japan
Set in the bustling metropolitan that Tokyo is, unlike what you might have seen from Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, this movie was sincerely honest about Tokyo albeit at times in a sardonic way. It captures the clash of cultures and manners between the West and Japan in a light hearted but very real manner and director Sofia Coppola manages to capture the air of romanticism and spirit of such a bewitching and bewildering city that makes Tokyo extremely unique to the rest of the world.
Lord of the Rings, New Zealand
If you are a self proclaimed “Biggest LOTR” fan but have no desire to go to New Zealand, then clearly, you are not that big of a LOTR fan. For every huge LOTR’s fan, we have come to acknowledge that Middle Earth is situated way down south in the Eastern Hemisphere, primarily in Queenstown, New Zealand. There are already several travel agencies which deal with organizing tours to all LOTR locations. So if you are still keen to look for “my precious” after watching the movie, at least you know where to start.
2046, Hong Kong
The final installation after “Days of Being Wild” and “In the Mood for Love”, this Wong Kar Wai’s masterpiece is a definitive must watch. This visually stunning fest of romantic fatalism with a dash of Sci-Fi is set as a bitter homage to Hong Kong. Starring Tony Leung who took on the part of Chow Mo-wan, this tale depicts Chow’s various relations with women and androids that he met after a failed love affair.
The Hong Kong that Wong captures is iridescent in its’ architecture and spirit and as a traveler, you see a whole other side of Hong Kong that is seldom found in tour packages.
